Jordan Henderson to miss pre-season friendly as Al-Ettifaq transfer looms

Liverpool midfielder and captain Jordan Henderson will not join the club tonight for their game against Karlsruher SC, according to Fabrizio Romano

The 33-year-old is considering a move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by former teammate Steven Gerrard.

Henderson will reportedly accept a £700,000 per week offer to join the host of players leaving Europe for Saudi Arabia.

The Middle Eastern nation is offering enticing salaries to players to attract more attention to their league.

They signed Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this year following his departure from Manchester United and have since added several more superstars.

Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Jota, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly are among the players who have joined the Saudi gravy train.

Henderson is not the only Liverpool player of interest to a Saudi club, with Al-Ittihad closing in on the signing of Fabinho for £40 million.

The Brazilian holding midfielder did not join the club on their pre-season tour.

There is interest in Luis Diaz, but Liverpool do not want to sell him. They are also ready to receive an offer for Thiago Alcantara.

The Henderson deal is not finalised, with Al Ettifaq reluctant to meet Liverpool’s £20 million asking price.

However, there is an expectation that the deal will eventually happen and the midfielder will move to the Middle East.
