Chelsea set to move for Montpellier striker Wahi, Atletico Madrid interested

Chelsea are eyeing a swoop for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi this summer, according to L’Equipe.

The Blues plan on signing the €30 million-rated centre-forward and want to loan him to sister club Racing Strasbourg next season.

Talks have been progressing for Wahi over the past few days, and Chelsea could submit an offer soon.

However, Atletico Madrid are also interested in securing his services but have not covered as much ground as Chelsea in the race.

The 20-year-old broke through at Montpellier last season. He bagged 19 goals and five assists in 33 Ligue 1 appearances to help his team finish 12th.

The young striker has been growing his reputation, and Chelsea want to take a punt on another promising talent.

They have already shelled out big money to sign Cesare Casadei, Andrey Santos, Kendry Paez, Angelo Gabriel, and Carney Chukwuemeka.

However, these starlets are not ready to contribute to Chelsea’s first team. They need game time to develop hence the club purchasing Strasbourg.

Patrick Vieira is the French outfit’s head coach, and he has a reputation for nurturing young talents.

Wahi could be an exciting signing for the Blues. If he performs well for Strasbourg, it would prevent Chelsea from spending big on another centre-forward.

Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal this summer, but there are still questions surrounding him and the club may need another quality striker.

Wahi is not that right now, but his development has been exciting. The player must now decide whether to accept Chelsea’s offer, which comes with plenty of uncertainty.

In other transfer news for Chelsea today, they are reportedly eyeing Marc Guehi as a replacement for Wesley Fofana.

The Frenchman is out for months following anterior cruciate ligament surgery. The two-time Champions League winners are considering Guehi to replace him.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also joining Olympique Marseille for free following a disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge.
