Fulham have announced that Willian has signed a new one-year contract keeping him at Craven Cottage for one more campaign.
Following the expiration of his previous deal with the Cottagers, Willian had other admirers in the Premier League.
They included Nottingham Forest, who were determined to lure the Brazilian to City Ground.
However, the 34-year-old’s priority was to remain at Fulham, where he enjoyed a remarkable year helping Marko Silva’s side retain their top-flight status.
But Willian found Fulham’s one-year offer unsatisfactory, which threatened to put Forest in pole position to capture his signature, having tabled better contract terms.
However, the former Chelsea and Arsenal man had a change of heart and accepted Fulham’s 12-month offer, perhaps buoyed by his determination to remain in London, where his family is settled.
“I’m completely happy – happy to sign one more year with Fulham,” Willian said in an interview with FFCtv.
“Happy to continue the work that I did last season with all my teammates and the whole club. I think it’s a club that can do even better this season, so I’m happy to continue this amazing adventure.”
Fulham owner Tony Khan added: “I’m thrilled that Willian will return to Fulham for at least one more season.
“He was a very important addition last summer and was a significant contributor during one of the most successful Premier League campaigns our club has ever had.
“We’re all very excited that he’ll return to Craven Cottage as we aim for another successful season in the Premier League together.”
After winning the Championship to secure promotion to the Premier League, Fulham enjoyed a remarkable campaign back in the top flight as they secured a top-half finish.
Willian played a key role in their success, with the experienced winger notching five goals and six assists in 27 league appearances.
Fulham will hope his experience comes in handy once again as they aim to cement their place as a top-flight club in the coming season.
