Luis Suarez set to link up with Messi and Busquets at Inter Miami

Major League Soccer club Inter Miami are closing in on a deal to sign Gremio striker Luis Suarez, according to Gaston Edul.

The 36-year-old will reportedly leave Brazil for the United States, where he will reunite with former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi.

Suarez bagged 195 goals and 113 assists in 283 games for the Catalan giants between 2014 and 2020.

He finished his career with Barca as the third on the club’s all-time top scorer list. He moved on to Atletico Madrid before returning to Uruguay with Club Nacional.

The former Ajax man moved to Gremio, where he has netted 13 goals and nine assists in 30 appearances. He will now move to the US and lead the line for the David Beckham co-owned club.

Suarez will look to recreate his magical connection with Messi for Miami, who need inspiration after 11 consecutive defeats.

Inter Miami sit bottom of the Eastern Conference and are 12 points off the Audi MLS Cup play-off spots.

They have appointed former Barca coach Gerardo Tata Martino to help them rescue the situation.

However, the Argentine has not got off to a good start following their 3-0 loss to St Louis.

They will hope for a turnaround when Messi debuts against La Liga MX’s Cruz Azul on July 21. The 2023 Leagues Cup match will be held at Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium.

Miami are still looking to add more ex-Barca stars to their roster, with free agent Jordi Alba close to linking up with several former teammates.

Alba had offers from Europe and the Middle East but opted for an adventure in Miami.
