Jordi Alba set to boost former Barcelona contingent at Inter Miami

Major League Soccer club Inter Miami are set to sign former Barcelona star Jordi Alba (via The Athletic).

The 34-year-old left-back has bid farewell to Barcelona after over a decade with the club.

He has been the subject of interest from various clubs, but Miami have secured his services.

The Spanish full-back, known for his blistering pace and attacking prowess, will provide valuable experience and quality to the team.

Alba’s time at Barcelona was illustrious and he undoubtedly left a lasting legacy at the club.

In 458 appearances for the Blaugrana, he bagged 27 goals and 99 assists.

As with any ageing player, doubts have arisen regarding Miami’s strategy of signing seasoned ex-Barcelona stars.

Starlet Alejandro Balde recently edged Alba out of the starting left-back position at Barcelona.

Despite this, he has shown glimpses of his brilliance. He contributed two goals and created 14 big chances in his limited appearances last season.

Miami’s recent signings, Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, and the pursuit of Luis Suarez have led some critics to question the club’s direction.

They seem to be assembling a squad of former Barcelona greats past their peak, leading to comparisons with a remixed version of the iconic Spanish club.

Miami turned to former Barca coach Gerard Tata Martino with the club languishing at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and desperate to revive their faltering campaign.

However, their recent 3-0 defeat to St Louis in his first match has raised concerns about their ability to turn things around.
