Former Ajax chief Edwin van der Sar out of intensive care after suffering brain injury

Former Ajax Chief Executive Officer, Edwin van der Sar, has shown remarkable progress in his recovery after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage while on holiday in Croatia.

The 52-year-old football legend has confirmed he has been moved out of intensive care to the delight of fans and well-wishers worldwide.

Van der Sar was rushed to the hospital over a week ago following a bleed on the brain and was recovering in an intensive care unit (ICU) in Croatia before being transferred to a hospital in the Netherlands.

However, the former Manchester United goalkeeper has confirmed that he is out of the ICU but will remain at the hospital until he is discharged by the medical experts.

Van der Sar represented several clubs over his illustrious 22-year playing career including Ajax, Juventus, Fulham and Man United, where he ultimately hung up his boots.

The Dutch icon has been part of Ajax’s board of directors since November 2012 after retiring from professional football the previous year.

However, Van der Sar left his position as Ajax CEO last term following a disappointing campaign that saw the Dutch giants fail to win the Eredivisie title and miss out on next season’s Champions League tournament.
