Xavi Simons to join RB Leipzig on loan from PSG

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have re-signed wonderkid Xavi Simons after an exciting campaign in the Eredivisie.

According to SportBild, the Parisiens will send him on loan to RB Leipzig for one season. The German club will not have an option to buy him permanently.

After struggling to find game time at PSG, he moved away from the club last summer. Simons joined Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and had a remarkable campaign.

He bagged 19 goals and eight assists in 34 league matches. He netted once and assisted another in seven Europa League appearances.

Simons scored in the Johan Cruyff Cup to help them defeat Ajax at the beginning of the season.

He subsequently made his debut for the Dutch national team and showed himself as one of the brightest talents from the European nation.

Following his stellar season, PSG decided they did not want to lose out on another homegrown talent as they had done with Moussa Diaby, Christopher Nkunku, Mike Maignan, Kingsley Coman and others.

They have re-signed him, and he will move to Leipzig on loan to continue his development. He joins several exciting new additions to the squad.

Leipzig recently snapped up Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool on a one-year loan. After struggling for game time under Jurgen Klopp, the Portuguese youngster moves to the DFB Pokal champions.

They have also signed top target Lois Openda. The Belgian forward was top of their transfer shortlist as they sought a replacement for Nkunku, who moved to Chelsea this summer.

The German club made multiple bids, but Lens stood their ground until Leipzig met their demands.

Leipzig will look to Openda and Simons to deliver goals as they challenge for the Bundesliga title.
