New Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Harry Kane’s commitment to the club amid talks of a potential move to Bayern Munich.
The Bavarians deputy president Uli Hoeness said yesterday that the 29-year-old informed the German outfit of his desire to join forces with Thomas Tuchel’s troops this summer.
Despite Hoeness’ comments, the England captain has travelled with the rest of the Spurs squad for a pre-season tour that will get underway with a friendly against West Ham United in Perth on Tuesday.
Postecoglou talked to the press in the build-up to his first game in charge of Tottenham, revealing his private conversation with Kane.
“I had a good chat with Harry,” he said, as relayed by The Athletic. “As I said before (in his first press conference), nothing earth-shattering or defining, from I guess, what people are seeking.
“Just a good chat. I introduced myself and we spoke mainly about the club and where he thinks it’s at, and where he thinks we can improve things.
“Harry’s the same as all the other players, you know. It’s not something I ask when they walk through the door, ‘Have you got a ticket or not?’
“It’s not something that I’m sitting down and demanding from people right from the outset.
“The reality is we have a bit less than a month before the season starts, the transfer window is still open for a while, so we’ll see how it all transpires.”
Bayern have seen two bids for Kane turned down by Tottenham this summer, but they’ve not lost hope of bringing the marquee striker to the Allianz Arena.
However, Spurs continue to play a hard bargain over their superstar’s sale and have only recently offered one of the most prolific Premier League marksmen a post-playing role to convince him to stay.
Postecoglou states he’s not bothered by persistent rumours linking Kane with a transfer to the Bundesliga, insisting the forward is ‘totally committed’ to Tottenham.
“No one has spoken to me from Munich!” he added.
“There are a lot of people that know Harry better than me, but he’s not going to get fazed by anything.
“He’s here and while he’s here, he’s totally committed to what we’re doing.”
