Manchester United are on the cusp of pulling off perhaps one of their most important piece of business this summer amid reports that Marcus Rashford is close to pledging his allegiance to the club.
The Athletic reports that the England international has agreed to commit his long-term future to his boyhood club after approving a new five-year contract with the Red Devils.
Both parties have reportedly reached an agreement on the long-term deal that will see Rashford remain at the Theatre of Dreams until at least 2028.
Off the back of a remarkable goalscoring campaign – his best since announcing himself on the centre stage as a prodigy in 2016 – Rashford’s future has been up in the air.
The 25-year-old hit double figures in goal contribution last season, registering 30 goals and 11 assists in 56 appearances across all competitions.
His remarkable form spurred Man United to a third-place Premier League finish and a Carabao Cup triumph – their first piece of silverware in six years.
However, there were fears that the talismanic forward could exit Old Trafford, with his existing contract set to expire next year.
European heavy spenders Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain were already monitoring Rashford’s situation, with PSG willing to lure the striker to the French capital with a mammoth contract proposal.
However, Rashford’s willingness to continue at Man United effectively saw him reject more lucrative proposals from teams in England and Europe in favour of remaining in Manchester.
Rashford’s imminent long-term contract, which is reportedly in the final stages of negotiation between the club and his representative, Dwaine Maynard, will end any lingering speculation over his future.
Rashford’s deal will come as a huge boost to Man United, who are also looking to close the signing of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana this week before jetting off to the United States for their pre-season tour.
