Marseille target Chelsea flop Aubameyang

Ligue 1 club Marseille are interested in a move for Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer, according to Relevo.

New Marseille boss Marcelino is pushing for the centre-forward after Alexis Sanchez left the club this summer following the expiration of his contract.

The French club have targeted Aubameyang as they scour the market for a striker to lead their line next season.

Aubameyang joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer in a deal worth around £10 million, but his time back in London has gone wrong.

In his 21 games for the club, he has only netted three goals and registered one assist.

Due to Chelsea’s tumultuous campaign, the former Arsenal striker was looking for the exit door in January.

He was eyeing a return to Barca, but the Catalans decided to hold off until summer when Chelsea refused to let him leave for free.

Barca have subsequently signed promising Brazilian striker Vitor Roque and do not have funds for Aubameyang.

The Blues want to sell the Gabonese striker before they fly to the United States for pre-season. They will hope Marseille’s interest results in a concrete offer.

Aubameyang is one of four players Chelsea want to move on immediately. The others are Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea entered the summer transfer window aiming to reduce their bloated squad. They have done so quickly, but they still have a few players to ship out.

Marseille have already signed Ruslan Malinovskyi, Amine Harit and Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer as they strive to build on their third-place finish last season.
