Juventus put three players on chopping block

Juventus are bracing themselves for a squad overhaul ahead of the 2023/24 season, with three first-team stars put up for sale.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, head coach Massimiliano Allegri has deemed Leonardo Bonucci, Arthur Melo and Weston McKennie surplus to requirements.

Following a dreadful 2022/23 campaign, highlighted by a group-stage exit in the Champions League and a failed bid to reach a top-four Serie A finish, the Italian heavyweights are keen to make changes.

Despite being one of the club’s most loyal servants, Bonucci could be among the first fringe players to take the hit as Juventus hope to remove his significant wages off their books.

The 36-year-old spent the final stretch of last season as a benchwarmer and no longer has a future at the Allianz Stadium after collecting over 500 appearances for the Bianconeri.

But as one of the highest-paid Serie A stars, Bonucci may have to leave the country, probably for Saudi Arabia or the United States, to maintain his hefty earnings.

Arthur, who endured a catastrophic loan spell at Liverpool last term, is another underachiever Juventus are desperate to get rid of in the coming weeks.

Having failed to record a single Premier League outing for the Reds in 2022/23, the 26-year-old midfielder is back in Turin to discuss his uncertain future.

The Brazilian may go down as one of the worst signings in the club’s history, considering the record-time Serie A champions paid Barcelona €72 million for his signature in 2020.

Left out in the cold, Arthur is perhaps the likeliest senior star to leave Juventus by the end of the summer.

Unlike his abovementioned teammate, McKennie enjoyed a decent short-term loan at Leeds United last season but failed to secure a permanent move as the Whites suffered relegation.

However, the midfielder won’t feature in Juve’s squad for their pre-season United States tour, having been omitted by Allegri.
