Porto lower asking price for AC Milan target Mehdi Taremi

AC Milan have been handed a huge boost in the pursuit of Mehdi Taremi, with FC Porto reducing their valuation of the striker.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Portuguese giants have lowered the asking price from €25 million to €20m for the Iranian, whose contract expires in 12 months.

Taremi has emerged as a top target for Rossoneri, who are scouring the market for a centre-forward to compete with Olivier Giroud.

The retirement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the poor form of Ante Rebic and Divock Origi have left Stefano Pioli devoid of attacking options.

The 30-year-old has been prolific for Porto, establishing himself as one of the best players in the Portuguese top flight.

The Iranian international had a sensational 2022/23 campaign, netting 31 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.

His performances in the Champions League grabbed everyone’s attention. He scored against Bayer Leverkusen, Club Brugge and Atletico Madrid in the group stage to guide Porto to the knockout phase.

Taremi has also courted interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, but his priority is continuing in Europe.

There is a potential stumbling block in the deal, as Milan only have one non-European spot left in their squad.

Samuel Chakwueze and Daichi Kamada are also being targeted by the Italian giants, and they need to decide who to prioritise.

Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic has completed his medical tests with Rossoneri, and an official announcement is only a matter of time.

Milan have also been continuously working on a deal for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.

They are waiting for the Eredivisie club’s response after submitting an offer worth €23 million, including bonuses.
