Napoli make approach for Daichi Kamada

Serie A champions Napoli are making plans for life after Piotr Zielinski, who is on the verge of ending his seven-year spell in south Italy.

Despite being left at the altar by AC Milan, former Eintracht Frankfurt ace Daichi Kamada could continue his career in Serie A.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Aurelio De Laurentiis has named the Japanese attacking midfielder his preferred replacement for the 29-year-old Pole.

It’s only a matter of time before Zielinski completes his Napoli departure after turning down a contract extension, with his current deal running out next summer.

Reluctant to let the ex-Empoli midfielder leave for free in 12 months, De Laurentiis is keen to sell him to the highest bidder in the coming weeks.

Lazio sold Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al-Hilal for €40 million earlier this week. They want Zielinski to take his place next season as they prepare for a Champions League return.

However, Lazio may have to overcome stiff competition from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ahli to sign the Poland international, with the Middle East outfit readying an offer for Zielinski.

The likelihood of the versatile midfielder continuing his career at Napoli is remote, which is why they’ve reached out to Kamada to discuss a possible deal.

Kamada spent the last six years at Frankfurt since arriving from Sagan Tosu in 2017, developing into one of the most consistent performers in the Bundesliga.

But Die Adler failed to renew his deal, and he can now negotiate personal terms with interested parties after becoming a free agent on July 1.

Milan came close to taking him to Serie A at the beginning of the summer, but after sacking Paolo Maldini, the Rossoneri have pulled the plug on the deal.

Napoli will now try to broker his move to the Diego Maradona Stadium as they appreciate the Japanese star’s versatility and technical qualities.
