AS Roma planning transfer talks with striker target Alvaro Morata

AS Roma are planning to meet with the agent of Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata to discuss a potential summer transfer, as per Corriere dello Sport.

Despite recently penning an extension with Atletico until 2026, a cloud of uncertainty is hanging over Morata at Wanda Metropolitano with constant exit rumours.

The former Juventus man has been heavily linked with a return to Serie A, with Roma and AC Milan keen on securing his services.

The Giallorossi are looking to step up their pursuit of the Spanish striker as Jose Mourinho aims to bring in more high-profile names to enhance the quality of his squad.

Paulo Dybala, who played alongside Morata at Juve, is aiming to convince his former teammate to move to the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma manager Tiago Pinto has scheduled a meeting with the Spaniard’s entourage to learn about the possibility of a deal and salary demands.

The 30-year-old made 45 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 14 times.

He has also been a key figure for the Spanish national team, sitting fifth in the all-time scorers list with 30 goals.

Morata was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2020 European Championship, the round of 16 at World Cup 2022 and the 2023 Nations League winning team.

The former Chelsea man has bags of experience, but his scoring consistency is not the best.

However, his link-up play and defensive attributes would greatly benefit Mourinho.

Recent reports suggested a conflict in Morata’s contract, with Atletico claiming the release clause is €21 million, whereas his agents claim it is €10m.

Milan also identified Morata as a top summer target, but the biggest threat is from Saudi Arabian giants Al-Ettifaq, who have tabled an enormous offer to the Spaniard.

Roma are also keeping tabs on West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca, who recently revealed that he would love to move to the capital club to play under Mourinho.
