Al-Ittihad to make £40m bid for Liverpool midfielder Fabinho

Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad will make a £40 million for Liverpool defensive midfielder Fabinho, according to The Athletic.

The 29-year-old has three years left on his contract with Liverpool. He joined the club in 2018 and has been a consistent feature in Jurgen Klopp’s side, making 219 appearances.

The Brazilian international has bagged 11 goals and ten assists since joining from AS Monaco.

The midfielder helped Liverpool win the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup. He was also instrumental when they won the Champions League,

He previously helped Monaco clinch the Ligue 1 title in 2017 after being converted into a defensive midfielder by head coach Leonardo Jardim.

Liverpool are already preparing for life without Fabinho. They are looking at defensive midfielders in the transfer market, with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia on their list.

They have been eyeing the Belgian midfield destroyer since the Saints suffered relegation, but the south coast club won’t let him go for cheap.

Liverpool’s midfield rebuild will continue following the addition of Dominick Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. The pair will help with the revamp, but there are other pieces to acquire.

James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have left the club following the expiration of their contracts in June. Fabio Carvalho has joined RB Leipzig on a season-long loan.

Jordan Henderson is also open to moving to Saudi Arabia to join Al-Ettifaq. The Merseyside club needs bodies in the centre.

However, it is unclear if Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will sanction the departure of the two midfielders as it will weaken his squad even further.
