Nottingham Forest yet to launch bid for Ibrahim Sangare despite reports

Nottingham Forest are interested in luring PSV Eindhoven defensive midfielder Ibrahim Sangare to the Premier League this summer.

Reports have been circulating that the Tricky Trees have lodged an official proposal for the player’s signature.

However, Dutch reporter Rick Elfrink claims that PSV are aware of Forest’s interest in their player, but they have yet to receive any official offers from the English side.

Sangare has long been linked with a move to the English top flight, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool touted as potential destinations. But PSV have hung on to the midfielder.

The Ivory Coast international has been a key player for the Dutch giants since joining from Toulouse in 2020. He has racked up 133 appearances for PSV, chipping in with 13 goals and nine assists.

PSV have repeatedly insisted that Sangare is not for sale, but that has not stopped the player from being linked with an exit at every opportunity.

The 25-year-old has a €35 million termination clause in his contract with PSV, and whichever club is interested in luring him away from the Philips Stadion will have to activate the clause.

Sangare has four years left on his contract with PSV, having signed a new deal last summer, so the Eredivisie giants are under no pressure to sell or negotiate a lesser transfer fee for the midfielder.

Forest hold a long-standing interest in the midfielder and are weighing up an official proposal, but the only bid that will be accepted is one that triggers the player’s clause.

They are in the market for a new defensive midfielder despite signing Cheikhou Kouyate last summer – although the former Crystal Palace man was only viewed as a stop-gap solution.

Steve Cooper is keen to reinforce his side this summer after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

Forest have already released several players, including former Manchester United man Jesse Lingard.
