Aston Villa have emerged as a possible destination for Bayer Leverkusen’s highly sought-after forward Moussa Diaby.
French news outlet L’Equipe claims (via GFFN) Villa have made an opening proposal to the German outfit for the France international winger.
Off the back of a sensational campaign where they finished in the Europa Conference League places, Villa are looking to significantly strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
Appointing Unai Emery proved to be a shrewd piece of business for the Birmingham club, and the Spanish manager proved his credentials last season, steering the Villans to a top-seven finish.
Villa bosses have now decided to empower Emery with everything they have to ensure the club maintains their meteoric rise next season.
Diaby emerged on Villa’s radar following a sensational individual campaign in Germany. The Frenchman reached double figures in goal contributions last term, notching 14 goals and 11 assists in 48 games.
Those numbers have proven too good to ignore, with the ex-Paris Saint-Germain man attracting interest from several European clubs, including the Ligue 1 champions.
PSG have sounded out an interest in luring Diaby back to the French capital, but they are yet to make an official offer to capture the 24-year-old forward.
Leverkusen will reportedly demand between €70-80 million for Diaby as they look to make a substantial profit on the €15m they paid to lure him away from PSG in 2019.
Although the details of Villa’s opening offer have not been made public, it is understood that Leverkusen considers it to be a good starting point for further negotiations.
Diaby has two years left on his contract. But Die Werkself have informed the player that he can leave the BayArena this summer provided a substantial proposal arrives for his services.
Villa have put themselves in pole position to win the race for Diaby’s signature, but they could face competition from Real Madrid and Arsenal, who have previously been linked with him.
