Highly-rated Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs has opened the door to a potential summer exit as selected Premier League clubs try to lure him away from Serie A.
According to Tuttosport, the 23-year-old has cast doubt on his future at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino amid intense speculation linking him with a move to England.
Crystal Palace and Liverpool have been monitoring the Dutchman’s situation for quite some time, while Europa Conference League winners West Ham United are also lurking in the shadows.
Jurgen Klopp has made two major signings this summer in the shape of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, but he’s also keen to strengthen his backline.
Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip have proved unreliable partners to Virgil van Dijk, making a new central defender one of the Reds’ priorities for the rest of the summer.
Schuurs has been nothing short of impressive since swapping Ajax for Torino last summer, earning widespread plaudits for his performances during the 2022/23 Serie A season.
The talented centre-half made 30 league appearances for Torino, showing he’s not just a trustworthy defender but a decent playmaker.
His ability to distribute the passes from the back and carry the ball forward makes him an ideal candidate to play alongside van Dijk, as his attributes suit Klopp’s system.
But Schuurs won’t come cheap. Torino president Urbano Cairo has slapped a €40 million price tag on his in-demand star’s head in anticipation of a bidding war.
Palace could rival Liverpool for the Dutchman’s signature if Marc Guehi leaves Selhurst Park, while West Ham want a long-term replacement for ageing Angelo Ogbonna.
The Hammers may use Nikola Vlasic as a makeweight in a deal to bring Schuurs to London after the Croat impressed Juric during his loan spell in Turin last season.
Liverpool must also be aware of Napoli’s interest in the Torino man after losing Kim Min-jae to Bayern Munich, although the Italians are reluctant to splash out high figures to replace him.
