Newcastle United weighing up €55m bid for Federico Chiesa

Newcastle United and Juventus have established contact to discuss Federico Chiesa’s potential move to St James’ Park.

According to La Repubblica, the Italians are ready to negotiate the winger’s exit and hope the Magpies will soon table an official bid for the Italy international.

It may take around €55 million to convince Juventus to let their out-of-favour winger leave following his fallout with manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Despite overcoming an injury-plagued start to the 2022/23 campaign midway through the season, Chiesa slipped down the pecking order last term.

Frustrated with his current status at the Allianz Stadium, the 25-year-old forward is contemplating a summer exit to reignite his career, and Newcastle are willing to pounce.

The Magpies recently completed a blockbuster purchase from Serie A earlier in July as Sandro Tonali left AC Milan to continue his career in the Premier League.

Newcastle had to fork out €70m plus add-ons to land the midfielder, and they’ll need to allocate a similar figure to maintain their shopping spree in Italy and lure Chiesa away from Juventus.

The club’s ambitions have skyrocketed after Eddie Howe guided them to the Champions League for the first time in over two decades.

Backed by a significant cash influx from the Middle East, the Magpies are targeting top players this summer to bolster their ranks ahead of a demanding 2023/24 season.

Howe already has a wealth of attacking options at his disposal.

Only last winter, Newcastle splashed out over €40m to team Anthony Gordon up with Allan Saint-Maximin, Alexander Isak and Miguel Almiron in a formidable attacking unit.

But Howe believes they won’t be enough to help the Magpies go the distance in the Champions League and remain relevant in the Premier League top-four frame.

Even with all his struggle at Juventus, Chiesa would be a top-class addition, considering he can play on both wings and behind a striker.

Perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich had been in pole position to sign the Italian winger earlier in the summer, but their interest has since faded.
