Khephren Thuram to remain at Nice next season after Liverpool sign Szoboszlai

French midfielder Khephren Thuram could now be staying at OGC Nice for another season in Ligue 1, according to L’Equipe.

Despite interest from European giants Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Thuram seems inclined to remain on the French Riviera.

Liverpool eyed a move for the Italy-born midfielder as part of their summer midfield rebuild but went for Dominick Szoboszlai instead.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich reportedly showed interest in him but those rumours faded as quickly as they emerged.

Les Aiglons had always planned to retain him this season and explore a potential sale next summer.

This strategic decision is because Thuram would be entering the final year of his contract, making him a more attractive prospect for potential suitors.

Apart from Nice’s plans, Thuram reportedly wants stability in his career. He wants to be settled and secure a spot in France’s 2024 European Championship squad.

The young midfielder recognises the opportunity presented by the potential absences of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba.

He received his first call-up in March and wants to establish himself as a regular for Les Bleus.

While a summer transfer could still happen, Thuram and Nice are not actively pursuing one.

They are exploring a contract extension and salary raise for the promising midfielder. Discussions on these matters could happen in September after the transfer window closes.

Thuram’s decision to stay at Nice will undoubtedly stir reactions. Many people anticipated a move to one of Europe’s top clubs.

However, the player’s desire for stability and the potential for opportunities in the national team have influenced his decision-making process.

Thuram’s future remains uncertain, but he looks set to continue plying his trade at Nice for another season in Ligue 1.
