Crystal Palace table opening bid for Liverpool target Perr Schuurs

Crystal Palace table opening bid for Torino defender Perr Schuurs

Torino defender Perr Schuurs has become a hot property in the summer transfer market, and Crystal Palace are looking to steal a march on the other potential suitors.

DAZN reports that the Premier League club have tabled an opening bid worth €35 million to lure the highly-rated centre-back to South London.

Off the back of an eye-catching debut Serie A campaign, Schuurs has been heavily linked with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino just one year after switching Ajax for Italy.

Several clubs in Italy and the Premier League are determined to land the 23-year-old this summer.

But Palace have made the first move to beat the competition by tabling a four-year contract proposal to the defender.

Liverpool are another club keen to lure Schuurs to the Premier League, with Jurgen Klopp eager to significantly reinforce the core areas of his squad this summer.

The Reds have been active in the summer transfer window, bolstering their midfield options by recruiting Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

Schuurs has emerged as an option for Liverpool, who are looking to switch their attention to defensive reinforcements. But Palace have positioned themselves as front-runners by tendering an official proposal.

However, it is understood their opening bid falls short of Torino’s expectations, with the Italians demanding at least €40m for the Dutch centre-back.

Schuurs has also cast doubt on his future at the club, handing a transfer boost to the plethora of clubs currently hot on his heels.

Palace are wary of the growing interest in Marc Guehi, who has proven to be a solid investment for the Eagles since switching Chelsea for Selhurst Park in 2021.

Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the 22-year-old, and Palace have earmarked Schuurs as an ideal replacement if the Englishman leaves the club.
