Bayern open to Alexander Nubel and Yann Sommer departures amid Stuttgart interest

Bayern Munich are open to selling Alexander Nubel and Yann Sommer this summer amid concrete interest from VfB Stuttgart, claims Kicker.

Nubel joined Bayern on a free transfer from Schalke 04 in 2020 but has only made four appearances for the Bundesliga giants and spent last season on loan at AS Monaco.

He quickly established himself as the number one shot-stopper at the Stade Louis-II, making 48 appearances across all competitions and keeping ten clean sheets.

Despite his heroics in France, Nubel’s long-term future still lies away from the Allianz Arena, with Bayern’s number-one goalkeeper Manuel Neuer set to reclaim his starting berth next season.

Neuer has recovered from a freakish injury that kept him away from Bayern’s training ground for six months and is ready to return to action at the start of the coming season.

Nubel has repeatedly refused to play understudy to his countryman, and Bayern are open to selling him this summer.

Stuttgart are interested in the German goalkeeper, but their financial situation could scupper a potential deal.

The 26-year-old is tied to Bayern until 2025, and Die Rekordmeister are demanding at least €8 million to part ways with the goalkeeper.

Bayern are keen to secure an outright sale, but Stuttgart only want Nubel on a season-long loan, with their economic situation forbidding them from matching the asking price.

From a sporting point of view, Stuttgart are preparing to integrate highly-rated Dennis Seimen into the first team set-up, but next season could come too soon for the 17-year-old goalkeeper.

They know that signing Nubel on a permanent deal would affect Siemen’s progress, hence their desire to capture the Bayern goalie on a loan deal.

Sommer, who stood in for Neuer last season, is also on the chopping block, and Stuttgart have weighed up a move for the Swiss stopper.

However, the Germans are aware the goalkeeper would prefer a move to Inter Milan, who have identified the 34-year-old as a potential replacement for Manchester United-bound Andre Onana.
