West Ham set to launch £20m bid for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse

West Ham United are set to bid £20 million for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse this summer.

The 28-year-old is under contract with the Saints until 2026 but is expected to leave the club after their relegation from the Premier League.

The England international reportedly wants to stay in the top flight, and several clubs are interested in signing him

West Ham are eager, but they are only willing to meet half of Southampton’s valuation for the experienced player.

According to the Daily Mail, the Hampshire outfit want around £40m fee to let Ward-Prowse leave this summer.

Ward-Prowse has been one of the best players to have emerged from the Saints’ youth academy.

After earning his competitive debut in 2011, he has since made over 400 appearances for the club.

Ward-Prowse has been one of the most important players for Southampton since their promotion to the top flight in 2012.

He has consistently delivered excellent performances, with over 100 goal contributions to his name.

The England international also posted impressive numbers last season, even though he couldn’t help his side avoid relegation.

Ward-Prowse bagged nine goals and four assists in 38 appearances last season.

He also averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.2 clearances and 1.8 crosses per game in the top flight (as per WhoScored).
