Galatasaray have tendered a verbal proposal to sign Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Davinson Sanchez, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Sanchez has been heavily linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, with Ange Postecoglou overseeing a massive squad overhaul.
The 27-year-old was part of the Tottenham defence that conceded a staggering 63 goals last season – their second-highest tally in the Premier League era.
Keen to ensure that aberration does not repeat itself, Postecoglou has placed an emphasis on revamping the defence, and Sanchez is one of the players on the chopping block.
Tottenham used a three-at-the-back system throughout last season, but Sanchez found playing time hard to come by after starting in just eight of his 18 Premier League appearances.
The Colombia international centre-half only made 24 appearances across all competitions last season, and his six-year association with the club is increasingly likely to end this summer.
The former Ajax man has one year left on his current contract, and Spurs are keen to get him off their books for a fee rather than lose him on a free transfer next year.
Super Lig champions Galatasaray have been active in the summer transfer window and have added the Colombian defender to their extensive wish list as they look to defend their league title next season.
At least two other clubs are interested in capturing Sanchez’s signature. However, Gala are the only club to have contacted Spurs with a transfer proposal.
Although Tottenham’s asking price for the player is relatively unknown, Sanchez is valued at €15 million by Transfermarkt. Gala’s opening proposal falls below that valuation, with the Turkish giants offering €9m.
Tottenham are already in the market for new defenders and are reportedly closing in on VfL Wolfsburg centre-half Micky van de Ven, having agreed personal terms with the player.
They are also close to finalising a permanent transfer for Barcelona outcast Clement Lenglet despite a questionable loan stint at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
