Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly in the driver’s seat to capture the signature of in-demand Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani.
According to the Independent, Les Parisiens are in pole position to sign the Frenchman despite a long-term interest from Manchester United, in a move that has nothing to do with Kylian Mbappe’s future.
Mbappe has become an unpopular figure in Paris after refusing to renew his contract that runs out in 2024, with PSG even suspecting he has a clandestine agreement to join Real Madrid next summer.
However, the 24-year-old’s potential exit isn’t the reason behind the reigning Ligue 1 champions’ pursuit of Kolo Muani but rather Luis Enrique’s wish to make the Frankfurt man his new striker.
Kolo Muani’s rise to stardom at the Deutsche Bank Park hasn’t gone under the radar, with a host of elite European clubs putting them on their lists of potential targets.
Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur and Man United have all spotted his development in the Bundesliga, but PSG are close to winning the race after convincing the player to move to Paris.
PSG appear to have made the 24-year-old believe a return to his homeland, where he played for Nantes for four years before switching to Germany in 2022, would be in his best interest.
The record-time Bundesliga champions had been the front-runners to sign the versatile forward weeks ago before paving the way for Les Parisiens by shifting their attention towards Harry Kane.
Bayern’s decision to focus on landing the Tottenham main man has handed PSG’s pursuit of Kolo Muani a massive boost, while Man United’s financial uncertainty gives them the upper hand in this transfer tug-of-war.
Unlike the Red Devils, the French giants have the might to match Frankfurt’s eye-watering £100 million asking price.
However, the Germans are reportedly ready to drop their claims to £80m now that they’ve become aware of the player’s desire to continue his career elsewhere.
