Man Utd ‘monitoring’ Bayern and Atletico Madrid target Sofyan Amrabat

Manchester United are monitoring Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and could make a move for him later in the summer transfer window, according to Sky Germany.

The Red Devils need a holding midfielder to provide competition for Casemiro and have set their sights on Amrabat.

Amrabat has been one of the best defensive midfielders in Serie A since joining Hellas Verona from Club Brugge. He then moved to Fiorentina, where he has continued to deliver excellent performances.

The Dutch-born midfield anchor demonstrated his talent at the 2022 World Cup. He helped Morocco reach the semi-final – the furthest an African team has gone in the competition.

Barcelona showed interest in him in January but failed with a move. They were linked with him again this summer but have since signed Ilkay Gundogan.

Atletico Madrid were reportedly in advanced discussions to agree personal terms and finalise a deal for Amrabat.

However, they are not alone in wanting the midfielder. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have eyed him as they look for a new defensive midfielder to partner Joshua Kimmich.

Die Rekordmeister failed to convince defensive midfield target Declan Rice to join them ahead of Arsenal this summer.

They considered Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo, but the massive financial outlay put him beyond their reach.

Man United could provide competition in the race to sign Amrabat, who also has interest from the Saudi Pro League.

The Fiorentina man is looking to stay in Europe and will have his pick of top clubs after an excellent campaign.
