Inter Milan and AC Milan to battle for Lille defender Tiago Djalo

Inter Milan and AC Milan are set to compete for the signing of Lille defender Tiago Djalo, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Portuguese centre-back’s contract runs out in 12 months, and the Milan duo are keen to secure his services.

There has already been a Milan derby in the transfer market for Davide Frattesi this summer, with Inter eventually winning the race for the Italian midfielder.

The two Serie A giants need defensive reinforcements this summer.

Milan manager Stefano Pioli wants to add more quality to his backline to raise the bar next season.

Milan’s defence was a letdown last term, with Fikayo Tomori and Simon Kjaer facing criticism for their poor performances in big games.

Milan’s Pierre Kalulu has attracted interest from Juventus, who have reportedly proposed a swap deal involving Weston McKennie.

Inter are also actively scouring the market for a new centre-back after losing Milan Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni have reportedly agreed to new terms with Inter, who have also made Francesco Acerbi’s loan deal from Lazio permanent.

A deal for Yann Bisseck is also close to completion, with the German U-21 defender poised for his medical tests with Inter.

Simone Inzaghi wants another defender in the ranks, and Djalo’s name is under consideration alongside Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and Atalanta’s Merih Demiral.

Lille have produced some top-quality defenders such as Gabriel Magalhaes and Sven Botman in recent years, and Djalo could be next in line.

Both Milan clubs have been highly engaged in the summer transfer window.

Inter have completed the transfers of Marcus Thuram and Frattesi, while Milan have added Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Marco Sportiello and Luka Romero to their squad.

Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic could be the next new signing for the Rossoneri, who have wrapped up a deal for the United States star.

Milan are also working on a potential deal for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
