Everton close to signing Ashley Young, enquire about Sassuolo defender Rogerio

Everton are close to securing the signature of Ashley Young, according to Sky Sports.

The 38-year-old will sign a one-year deal until 2024 with the option to extend it for another 12 months. He will reportedly undergo a medical tomorrow.

The former England international rejected offers from other Premier League and Championship clubs to sign for the Toffees.

He also had offers from outside Europe but decided to stay in England.

Young is Everton’s first summer signing after the club narrowly escaped relegation last summer.

The club is in financial trouble leading to boardroom upheaval. Former manager Carlo Ancelotti recently sued them over commercial disputes.

However, with an incoming new board of directors and new owners set to invest £130 million, the club could be set for a brighter future.

Everton manager Sean Dyche is eager to add to his squad this summer and Young is unlikely to be the last player to arrive at Goodison Park.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, they have enquired about signing Sassuolo left-back Rogerio.

The Brazilian is a highly-regarded Serie A full-back and could be an asset for Everton as they strive to enjoy a more productive Premier League campaign.

Rogerio has made over 150 appearances for the Italian club, bagging two goals and nine assists.

The Nobres-born full-back made 36 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo last season and provided three assists.

However, a move for Rogerio makes little sense given that Vitaliy Mykolenko is in the squad and Young can provide cover in that position.
