Championship pre-season fixtures to catch in July

Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town waved goodbye to the Championship at the end of last season as they secured promotion to the Premier League.

The Clarets dominated the league throughout the campaign, securing automatic promotion with seven games to spare. 

Burnley easily clinched the Championship title, collecting 101 points in the process. 

Sheffield United finished in second place, while Luton Town defeated Coventry City in the play-off final to become the third team to win promotion.

They will replace Southampton, Leeds United and Leicester City next season, with the trio ending the previous campaign in the Premier League relegation zone. 

They will be among the favourites to earn promotion to the top flight, while Middlesborough and West Bromwich Albion are also expected to be competitive.

We look at some of the best pre-season fixtures to catch this month.

Leeds United vs Manchester United 

Football fans can enjoy a mouthwatering clash before the 2022-23 Championship fixtures start in August.

The Red Devils and Leeds will lock horns with each other at the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo on July 12.

Crystal Palace vs Watford 

Crystal Palace will be in action against Watford at the Crystal Palace Academy on July 22 as part of their 2023 pre-season fixtures. 

Leicester City vs Tottenham Hotspur 

Leicester’s relegation was a shock considering they lifted the Premier League trophy only seven years ago. 

The Foxes will meet Tottenham, who also endured a highly disappointing 2022-23 campaign, at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok on July 23. 

Southampton vs Bournemouth

Southampton, who have dropped down to the Championship for the first time in 11 years, will meet Bournemouth at St Mary’s on July 25.

Liverpool vs Leicester City 

Liverpool will lock horns with Leicester at the Singapore National Stadium on July 30.
