John Terry makes shock return to Chelsea with academy role

John Terry has announced his return to his former club Chelsea after leaving his coaching role at Leicester City.

The 42-year-old was part of Dean Smith’s coaching staff, but they failed to keep the Foxes in the English top flight.

The pair previously worked together at Aston Villa, guiding them to Premier League promotion at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Terry helped the Midlands outfit stay in the top flight for the next two years before departing in 2021.

However, to the great delight of the Blues’ fans, he is now set to return to Chelsea with an academy role.

The former England international revealed on Twitter:  ‘I’m delighted to be back home working in the Academy.’

Terry is widely regarded as one of the best defenders ever after winning every major trophy in England and Europe.

During his 19 years with Chelsea, he lifted five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and three League Cups. He also won the Champions League and Europa League.

The 42-year-old made 717 appearances at Stamford Bridge, bagging 67 goals.

Chelsea endured an awful 2022-23 campaign, but they are expected to bounce back this season under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

They have done well in the summer transfer window, selling several unwanted stars while adding a few quality players to their squad.
