Paris Saint-Germain fear their superstar Kylian Mbappe has gone behind their back and agreed to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2024.
According to Sky Sports, Les Parisiens suspect foul play, with the 24-year-old’s future continuing to be one of the major talking points of the summer.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has recently confirmed the club’s stance on the French forward, insisting the club won’t let him leave for free, which means he can either extend his deal now or find a new team.
Mbappe’s contract at the Parc des Princes is valid until 2024. Unless he puts pen to paper on a new deal soon, the record-time Ligue 1 champions will be reluctantly looking to sell him to the highest bidder.
They barely withstood the pressure from Madrid last summer, needing an intervention from high places in the French government to persuade the ex-Monaco man to commit to a new contract.
But it could be all in vain, as they seem to have only postponed the inevitable, with Mbappe pursuing his personal agenda behind the curtain, hellbent on pledging his allegiance to Los Merengues.
After informing the club of his decision not to extend his contract, the France national team captain has found himself at Al-Khelaifi’s mercy, causing the Qatari businessman to consider his immediate sale.
Familiar with the proceedings in Paris, Liverpool have reportedly spotted a window of opportunity to hijack Madrid’s interest by tabling a club-record offer of €200 million.
Encouraged by Mbappe’s flattering words about Jurgen Klopp and his Anfield project, the Reds have joined the mix, bidding to spoil the Spaniards’ long-term pursuit of one of the world’s best players.
However, Mbappe is ready to upset Liverpool to follow his heart.
It’s still uncertain whether his talks with Madrid behind the smokescreen are accurate, but knowing Los Blancos’ affection for household names, it’s hard to discard such a possibility.
One way or another, his future at PSG is seemingly nearing an end.
