Kim Min-jae completes medical ahead of Bayern Munich transfer

Bayern Munich are on the verge of sealing the transfer of Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, who has completed his medical tests with the German club, reports Fabrizio Romano.

With everything agreed on the player’s side, Bayern’s next step will be activating his €50 million release clause.

Min-jae emerged as a top target for the Bavarians following a stunning 2022/23 campaign, where he guided the Partenopei to the Scudetto after 33 years.

Opponents found it hard to get past the sizeable South Korean centre-back, whose ball-playing abilities are also top-notch.

Manchester United had been showing interest in Min-jae before Bayern outplayed them in the transfer race.

He underwent his medical today with the help of Bayern’s medical staff in his homeland, where he is currently taking part in military training.

Min-jae is set to earn around €12m per year on a five-year contract.

He is a vital addition to Bayern’s defence, with Lucas Hernandez on his way to Paris Saint-Germain and Benjamin Pavard’s future up in the air.

Hernandez’s decision has completely caught Bayern off guard. The Bavarians thought a contract renewal was in place, but the Frenchman was adamant about joining PSG.

PSG will reportedly cough up €50m for his services – the exact figure Bayern will pay Napoli for Min-jae.

Pavard’s contract expires in 2024 and he has no intention of extending it, meaning Bayern are waiting for suitable offers to sell him this summer.

Singing a top-class striker remains one of the main objectives for Bayern, with Harry Kane earmarked as the priority target.

However, the process is turning out to be tedious, with Tottenham Hotspur determined to keep hold of the Englishman.
