Former Man Utd keeper Edwin van der Sar suffers cerebral haemorrhage on holiday

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has suffered a cerebral haemorrhage while holidaying in Croatia, according to De Telegraaf.

The 52-year-old is in the hospital after suffering a medical condition in which a ruptured blood vessel causes bleeding inside the brain.

A helicopter flew the former Dutch international to the medical centre, where he is in the intensive care unit until he recovers.

The first 24 hours are usually crucial in cases like this, and he must receive the best care possible.

Van der Sar recently left his position as CEO of Amsterdam giants Ajax. He left after a disappointing campaign that saw Ajax fail to win the Eredivisie title and miss out on the Champions League next season.

He had returned to the club initially as a marketing director before taking over as the chief executive.

During his time at the club, Ajax reached the Champions League semi-final before bowing out to Tottenham Hotspur.

However, following their downturn in fortunes this season, Van der Sar came under fire and resigned six weeks ago.

He described his time at the helm of the record Eredivisie champions as a difficult period. He disclosed that he felt the need to rest and do other things. The next step of his career remains unclear.

The legendary goalkeeper played for Ajax between 1990 and 1999 before moving on to Serie A giants Juventus. In a shocking move, he then joined Fulham for £7 million.

However, his top-class ability saw him join United, where he went on to make over 206 appearances.

Over his illustrious career, he won titles for all the clubs he represented.

He was part of Ajax’s famous 1995 team that won the Champions League. He won the title again with United in 2008.

The football world holds its breath, hoping to see the legendary shot-stopper recover from this setback.
