Paris Saint-Germain have re-entered the hunt for Ousmane Dembele, according to a report from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.
After rejecting several contract renewal offers from Barcelona over the last couple of weeks, the Frenchman is set to leave Camp Nou as a free agent when his current deal expires at the end of June.
Chelsea are believed to be closing in on a Bosman move for Dembele as Thomas Tuchel seeks to add more firepower to his squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
However, a late spanner has been thrown into The Blues’ works as they now face late competition for Dembele’s signature from PSG.
Les Parisiens were believed to have pulled out of the race for the winger but the Parc des Princes-based side have reportedly had a change of heart.
Despite managing to fend off competition from Real Madrid to keep hold of Kylian Mbappe, the Ligue 1 champions are looking to bolster their options in attack especially having said goodbye to Angel Di Maria.
Dembele would be a welcome addition to the French outfit due to his combination of pace, dribbling and creativity as no player recorded more assists than him during the just-concluded La Liga season where he started less than half of his side’s 38 league games.
Dembele’s time at Barcelona was largely marred by persistent injuries but the 25-year-old has managed to stay fit of late which is an encouraging sign for potential suitors in the summer transfer window.
While a move to Paris is likely to be financially more appealing to Dembele, regular playing time is far from assured due to the presence of Neymar and Lionel Messi.
On the other hand, a switch to Chelsea not only guarantees more game time but would also give him an opportunity to reunite with the manager under whom he played his best football to date.
