Manchester United are preparing to launch a bid for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund, according to the Telegraph.
The Red Devils have several positional targets they need to fill this summer including the striking department, having relied on Marcus Rashford throughout last season.
Man United had identified Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as a priority target at the behest of manager Erik ten Hag, who is keen to work with the Englishman at Old Trafford.
Their pursuit of Kane, who became his country’s all-time highest goalscorer in March, hit a roadblock with Spurs unwilling to listen to offers for their talismanic striker.
Tottenham’s stance has forced Man United to reconsider their transfer strategy, although they could have struggled to match Kane’s valuation considering their Financial Fair Play concerns.
The Red Devils have switched their attention to Hojlund who has stormed into the spotlight following a breakthrough campaign with Atalanta last season.
The 20-year-old scored nine times in 32 league games for La Dea last term. But his performances for Denmark in the European Championship qualifiers further solidified his credentials as one of the finest young strikers in Europe.
Like his popularity, Hojlund’s valuation has also skyrocketed with Atalanta, fully aware of the rising interest in their striker, demanding an eye-watering €100 million to part ways with the youngster this summer.
Man United are aware of just how much Atalanta value the Danish hitman, but the Red Devils are poised to act on their interest either way, believing that they can lure Hojlund to the Theatre of Dreams by forking out around £50m.
Man United have spent a chunk of their restricted transfer budget, making Mason Mount their first summer acquisition.
They are also in talks to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan as a replacement for David De Gea, who has left the club after seeing out his contract.
The English giants still have a lot of business waiting ahead in the transfer window as they plan a summer clear-out.
Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, Fred, Scott McTominay, Antony Martial, Alex Telles, Anthony Elanga and Eric Bailly are all on the chopping block.
