Serie A giants AS Roma have set their sights on Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Their pursuit of Davide Frattesi has hit a roadblock, with the player set to join Inter Milan.
They are considering a move for Marcel Sabitzer, who had a loan spell at Manchester United last season.
The player has returned to Bayern Munich as United did not make the transfer permanent.
McTominay is another prominent name on Roma’s transfer shortlist. The Scottish international shares history with Roma manager Jose Mourinho.
During Mourinho’s tenure at Old Trafford, McTominay flourished under his guidance. He broke into the first team and became a regular in the team.
Mourinho admires the midfielder, and his influence might play a pivotal role in securing McTominay’s signature ahead of other suitors.
Newcastle United have shown interest in signing the 26-year-old, who is a target for manager Eddie Howe.
Another intriguing name on Roma’s radar is Renato Sanches.
The Portuguese midfielder is currently at Paris Saint-Germain but has endured a disappointing spell with the French club.
Sanches’ technical prowess and versatility have caught the attention of the Roma management, making him a viable option for their midfield.
However, they will be wary of his injury record. He is constantly dealing with niggling injuries that blight his consistency.
Roma will hope to add one of Sabitzer, McTominay and Sanches for the upcoming season.
Mourinho complained about the club’s lack of transfer activity since he joined, and the club responded this summer.
They have now signed Houssem Aouar and Evan Ndicka on free transfers.
They are also close to signing Diego Llorente from Leeds United on another loan deal with an obligation to buy.
