Hannah Dingley makes history as caretaker boss of Forest Green Rovers

Hannah Dingley has made history as she has become the first woman to take charge of an English Football League club.

Forest Green Rovers announced on Tuesday that they have appointed Dingley as their interim boss following the departure of Duncan Ferguson.

The former Everton striker took over the club as manager in January, but he failed to keep his side in League One.

He led the Gloucestershire outfit to only a single win from 18 league matches, and his team ultimately dropped into League Two.

The Rovers have now parted company with Ferguson and have put Dingley in interim charge.

The 39-year-old said: “I’m really excited for this next step of my career. Pre-season has just begun and the full season kicks off very soon.

“It’s an exciting time in football. I am grateful for the opportunity to step up and lead such a progressive and forward-thinking club.”

Dingley’s appointment is a landmark moment as it is the first time in history that a woman has taken charge of an English Football League club.

The Welsh boss will lead her side to a friendly game against Melksham Town on Wednesday, and she is also expected to continue in the role for pre-season preparations.

Dingley, who holds a UEFA Pro licence, previously worked as an academy coach at Burton Albion.

She joined Forest Green as their academy manager in 2019 but will now take charge of the senior team.
