Borussia Dortmund plot summer move for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie

Borussia Dortmund have initiated talks with Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie ahead of a potential summer move, as per a report by ESPN.

The United States star has returned to Turin following a six-month underwhelming loan spell at Leeds United, who were relegated from the Premier League.

The Whites opted against his permanent transfer for €33 million and sent him back to Italy.

However, McKennie appears to have no future at Juve, who are looking to offload players as a part of the summer revamp.

Dortmund view it as a great opportunity as they are scouring the market for midfield reinforcements.

The Bundesliga giants have already lost Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid in a record-breaking deal, while Mahmoud Dahoud and Raphael Guerreiro have joined Brighton & Hove Albion and Bayern Munich for free.

They recently acquired Felix Nmecha from Wolfsburg in a deal worth €30 million to add more solidity to the midfield.

The German youngster was Dortmund’s second summer signing following the free transfer of Ramy Bensebaini.

Having pulled out of the pursuit for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, Die Borussen are now looking to sign McKennie.

Signing Mckennie could incur criticism from Dortmund fans due to his past with fierce rivals Schalke. He launched his career with them before gaining wider recognition.

Serie A giants AC Milan were also offered the chance to sign McKennie, who has a contract with the Bianconeri until 2025.

McKennie, who has won 44 international caps, would link up with compatriot Giovanni Reyna if he joins Dortmund.

The 24-year-old’s form has nosedived in recent years, and he will be looking to get his career back on track.
