Leeds appoint former Norwich manager Daniel Farke

Leeds United have appointed Daniel Farke as their manager on a four-year contract.

The 46-year-old has plenty of experience in the second tier, guiding Norwich City to win the Championship in 2019 and 2021.

However, they suffered immediate relegation back down to the Championship after their ascent on each occasion.

Farke was in charge of Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach last season, but they dismissed him after they finished tenth in the standings.

Farke replaces Sam Allardyce, who took over towards the end of last season. He was only in the job for two months but failed to keep Leeds in the Premier League.

Sporting director Victor Orta recently left the club to rejoin Sevilla, where he was the technical director early in his career.

Orta was responsible for hiring Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia before Allardyce.

Farke returns to England and will hope to find the same success he did with the Canaries. Eddie Riemer will be his assistant.

Christopher John and Chris Domogalla will join Farke’s coaching staff after working with him at Norwich.

Farke said (via Leeds’ website): “I’d like to thank everyone for the really warm welcome. I’m really grateful at this moment, to work for this amazing club.

“I feel humble at this time. I know the responsibility to fulfil all the expectations, and I want to repay the trust shown.

“The most important thing is to create togetherness and unity within this club again and from today onwards.

“I will work on it with my staff and players, and I trust our supporters will be there when we need them. I cannot wait for the first game of the season.”
