Feyenoord interested in signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips

Liverpool defender Nat Phillips has caught the attention of Dutch champions Feyenoord, according to The Athletic

Phillips is rated at £10 million by the Anfield club and his combative style has earned him admiration from Feyenoord.

Manager Arne Slot is looking to reinforce his backline and has his sights set on the Bolton-born centre-back.

While formal negotiations have yet to commence, the prospect of joining Feyenoord holds considerable appeal for the defender.

He would get regular game time at De Kuip and be able to play in the Champions League.

Leeds United are also interested in Phillips, who has a contract with Liverpool until 2025. The Championship club could move for him as they look to climb back into the top flight.

The 26-year-old has made only 29 appearances for the Reds since his debut in 2020. He made just five appearances across all competitions last season.

Phillips’ career has seen him spend the 2019/20 season on loan at German second-tier club Stuttgart.

He subsequently played a crucial role in helping Bournemouth secure promotion from the Championship in the 2021/22 campaign.

Benfica expressed interest in securing Phillips on a season-long loan in the previous summer transfer window.

Bournemouth, Burnley and Southampton made approaches to secure his signature.

However, the defender remained at Liverpool due to the team’s defensive injury concerns.

A similar scenario unfolded in January, with Galatasaray and various German clubs exploring potential deals.

An injury to Ibrahima Konate prompted Klopp to retain Phillips as cover until the end of the season.
