AC Milan are targeting a move for Alvaro Morata in the upcoming transfer window, according to Calciomercato.
Currently boasting Olivier Giroud and Divock Origi as their main striker options, Milan are keen to bolster their options next summer and have set their sights on Morata.
Having netted 13 league goals this term, Morata has enjoyed a decent campaign for Atletico Madrid, who currently sit second in La Liga.
Off the back of a first spell in Italian football with Juventus, the Spaniard could be set for a return to Serie A.
Since the arrival of Memphis Depay from Barcelona, Morata has seen his game time reduce and has admitted he could leave in search of more first-team opportunities.
“I would like to play more, but Memphis Depay is doing well, the whole team is playing well and I have to wait,” Morata said back in March.
“The future? I’ll listen to the mister and the club – I’m fine here, but you never know what can happen in the future.”
Morata is valued at around €20 million as he has just over 12 months left on his contract at Atletico and would be a shrewd addition to Milan.
The Rossoneri may face competition from Juventus with Max Allegri’s men reportedly interested in bringing Morata back to Turin as a replacement for potential departure Dusan Vlahovic.
A late twist from the Italian Football Federation’s Federal Court of Appeal in Juventus’ ongoing case for capital gain irregularities has left the Old Lady on course to be docked 11 points.
This would see Juventus drop to sixth place in the Serie A standings and move Milan up to fourth, leaving Stefano Pioli’s men on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League, potentially giving them an edge in their pursuit of Morata.
