Chelsea star Marc Cucurella offered to Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid were offered the chance to sign Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella, according to Marca.

The Spaniard moved from Brighton & Hove Albion to Stamford Bridge last summer in an expensive deal worth €65 million, but he has failed to live up to expectations.

Cucurella was no different from most of his teammates, with the Blues ending last season 12th in the Premier League.

The former Barcelona star made 33 appearances in all competitions, but his performances were heavily criticised.

Things went from bad to worse for the Spaniard when he was jeered by Chelsea fans during the away game against West Ham United when coming off the pitch.

The former Getafe star could join the massive exodus at Stamford Bridge, with Blues working on a fire sale to reduce their bloated wage bill and comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

Newcastle United have emerged as suitors for the 24-year-old as they look to bolster the squad ahead of next season’s Champions League.

Cucurella was also linked with a return to La Liga, with Atletico considering him one of the back-up options for primary target Javi Galan if the deal for the latter falls through.

However, Los Rojiblancos have finalised the move for Galan, agreeing a €5m deal with Celta Vigo. Manu Sanchez will be heading to Celta as part of the deal.

Galan is expected to undergo his medical examinations with Atletico soon, and the official announcement will be only a matter of time.

Atletico have reportedly parted ways with Geoffrey Kondogbia, who has agreed to join Ligue 1 giants Marseille.

Dusan Vlahovic is also on the wishlist of Diego Simeone due to the uncertain futures of Alvaro Morata and Joao Felix.

However, the chances are extremely low as Juventus are said to be demanding around €90m – a figure far beyond the financial limits of Atletico.
