Tottenham open to letting Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave, Atletico Madrid interested

Tottenham Hotspur are bracing themselves for the potential departure of midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer, according to The Athletic.

The 28-year-old has interest from Atletico Madrid in Spain, but there is no direct contact between Spurs and Atletico or any other club.

However, Tottenham are reportedly open to the idea of Hojbjerg’s exit if a suitable offer is made.

Hojbjerg still has two years remaining on his contract after joining Tottenham in 2020. Since his arrival, he has been the preferred choice in midfield.

However, with emerging talents such as Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr, along with established players like Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur, Spurs boast a well-stocked central midfield.

Hojbjerg featured prominently for Tottenham last season, starting in all but one of their Premier League games until mid-May.

The Danish international was notably absent from the squad in the final two matches of the campaign. His absence has led to speculation about his future.

Hojbjerg initially joined Tottenham from Southampton after a successful four-year stint with the south-coast club.

New manager Ange Postecoglou is pushing to revamp the squad after a disappointing eighth-place finish last season.

Recent acquisitions include James Maddison from Leicester City and Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.

They have also completed the permanent signing of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus.

In addition to Hojbjerg, discussions are underway regarding the potential departure of another central midfielder from Spurs.

Harry Winks is reportedly close to sealing a move to Championship club Leicester City.

He spent last season on loan at Sampdoria and is on his way out due to competition for places.
