Chelsea star Ruben Loftus-Cheek will arrive in Milan on Thursday to undergo medical tests with AC Milan ahead of a summer transfer, reports Fabrizio Romano.
The Rossoneri have reached an agreement with the Premier League outfit for the English midfielder in a deal worth €16 million plus €4m in bonuses.
Loftus-Cheek could be Milan’s second signing of the summer following the announcement of the free transfer of goalkeeper Marco Sportiello earlier today.
Having been with Chelsea from his youth days, Loftus-Cheek has been deprived of enough chances with the first team.
The 27-year-old had loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham. Loftus-Cheek made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Blues last season, where the west Londoners reached new lows – finishing 12 in the Premier League.
Chelsea put Loftus-Cheek on the market as part of a major summer clearout to avoid FFP breaches, while the midfielder also decided to leave his boyhood club to put his career back on track.
Milan’s deal for Loftus-Cheek appeared to hit a standstill following the shock exit of technical director Paolo Maldini, however, the Italian giants, headed by Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada, successfully carried out the negotiations.
Loftus-Cheek will have huge expectations on his shoulder as he has been touted as the replacement for Sandro Tonali, who has agreed to join Newcastle United for €80m.
More midfielders are being targeted as Milan will be without Ismael Bennacer for a few months due to injury.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio and Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi are on the top of Milan’s wishlist, with the latter also a target of arch-rivals Inter Milan.
Stefano Pioli’s side are also said to have struck a deal for Lazio’s young Argentine prospect Luka Romero.
