Liverpool exploring move for Dominik Szoboszlai

Liverpool are exploring a deal to sign RB Leipzig forward Dominik Szoboszlai, according to The Athletic.

The Reds have already met with Szoboszlai’s entourage as they aim to snap him up this summer.

The 22-year-old was one of Leipzig’s standout performers last season where he netted ten times across all competitions, including the clincher in his side’s 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB-Pokal Cup final.

Szoboszlai admitted in March he could leave his current employers, although he would also be fine with remaining under contract at Red Bull Arena.

“If there is interest, I’ll consider it, not because I don’t have a good time at Leipzig, but because I’ve always been interested in challenges,” Szoboszlai told Index.

“On one side of the scale is a good Leipzig, with a manager who trusts me and teammates who accept me and also believe in me.

“At the same time, on the other side, there is the question, if I can now take a step towards Europe’s top five or six clubs, should I say no to the challenge?

“I’ve never been that type! I am in a very good position, as I can play in a fantastic club.”

Following in the footsteps of Christopher Nkunku who recently joined Chelsea from Leipzig, Szoboszlai could now be set for a switch to the top tier of English football amid interest from Liverpool.

He has a release clause of €70 million valid until June 30, after which Liverpool and Leipzig would have to negotiate an alternative deal.

The clubs are currently in discussions over a season-long loan move for Fabio Carvalho, who has found game time hard to come by at Anfield.

Since the acquisition of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool have been working towards making another midfield addition.

They could intensify their efforts to sign Szoboszlai in the coming days.
