AC Milan eye Atletico Madrid target Amrabat to replace Newcastle-bound Tonali

AC Milan are evaluating a move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat this summer, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Rossoneri have lost Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United and need a replacement. They have their sights set on the 26-year-old.

Amrabat has been one of the best holding midfielders in Serie A since joining Hellas Verona from Club Brugge, initially on loan, in 2019.

He established himself for the Gialloblu before joining Fiorentina. He has formed a renowned partnership with Rolando Mandragora and Giacomo Bonaventura for Vincenzo Italiano’s side.

Amrabat was a regular feature as Fiorentina reached the Europa Conference League and Coppa Italia finals this season.

At the 2022 World Cup, the Netherlands-born defensive midfielder established himself as a household name.

Amrabat was a regular for a Morocco side that reached the semi-final. He showed his ability to dictate play with his crisp passing game.

He was also excellent at his primary defensive midfield duty of breaking up opposition play.

Several top European clubs began to monitor his situation and considered moves for him in the January transfer window, but he stayed with Fiorentina.

Barcelona showed interest in Amrabat as an option to replace Sergio Busquets, but they have since signed Ilkay Gundogan.

Atletico Madrid want to sign him. They are in advanced talks to agree personal terms and negotiate a transfer fee with his club.

Milan are now looking to enter the race and hope they can convince him to join their project.
