AC Milan target Milinkovic-Savic subject to Saudi interest, agent confirms

Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, according to the player’s agent Mateja Kezman.

With just one year left on his current deal with Lazio, the 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Stadio Olimpico this summer.

Claudio Lotito has been reluctant to see the highly sought-after midfielder leave, but Milinkovic-Savic’s desire for a new challenge has seen the Lazio chief soften his stance.

Lazio are now open to doing business for the Serbian midfielder but will demand at least €40 million.

The former Genk man is not short on suitors, with Serie A and other European clubs closely monitoring his situation in Rome.

The free-spending Saudis are also in the mix for the Serbian’s signature, with the player’s agent confirming interest from clubs in the Middle East.

“For Sergej, there have been many expressions of interest from Saudi Arabia,” Kezman said (via Calciomercato).

“But at the moment we have other options on the table. Does this mean he won’t play in Saudi next year? We’ll see. In life, you never know.”

AC Milan have registered an interest in Milinkovic-Savic after watching Sandro Tonali complete a big-money move to Newcastle United worth a reported €70m.

The Rossoneri are on the hunt for Tonali’s long-term replacement and are expected to reinvest a chunk of the funds from the Italian’s sale into finding his successor.

Milinkovic-Savic has been on Milan’s radar for a while, but they have not been able to act on their long-standing interest due to a lack of funds.

However, Tonali’s departure has handed them the war chest they need to fund Milinkovic-Savic’s transfer, and the Serbian is now a priority target.

Lazio have already begun scouring the market for possible replacements. The Biancocelesti already have Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek on their radar, with Maurizio Sarri keen to renew acquaintances with the Englishman.
