Busquets joins Messi at Inter Miami after leaving Barcelona

Sergio Busquets has joined Major League Soccer club Inter Miami after deciding to leave Barcelona this summer.

Busquets had an offer from the La Liga club to stay but decided to seek a new adventure.

The 34-year-old graduated from Barca’s La Masia academy before establishing himself with the first team.

The Spaniard made over 700 appearances for the Catalan club. He is behind only Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernandez on the all-time appearance list for the La Liga champions.

Busquets bagged 18 goals and 45 assists for the club, but those were not his strengths. He excelled at breaking up opposition play with well-timed tackles and interceptions.

He was a master in the build-up phase, helping his side to keep things ticking over with well-weighted passes.

Busquets won 32 titles for Barca, including eight La Liga and three Champions League titles.

The Sabadell-born midfielder carried his success to the world stage. He won the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship with Spain.

He now leaves Europe for an adventure in America, where he will reunite with former teammate Messi.

The Argentine attacker has left Paris Saint-Germain and will sign for Miami

Both players rejected interest from the Saudi Pro League to move to Miami, where they will play for a side at the bottom in the Eastern Conference.

Apart from Busquets and Messi, Miami are also plotting a move for another Barcelona legend, Jordi Alba.

They are one of the clubs interested in signing him following his departure from the club this summer.

There were rumours that Luis Suarez could join them, but he refuted those links. The former Liverpool striker looks set to retire due to injury.
