Man Utd submit third bid for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount

Manchester United have submitted a third and final bid for Chelsea star Mason Mount, according to The Telegraph.

The Red Devils have been pushing for the 24-year-old, but the Blues set a high price tag on their academy star.

United will hope their latest offer of £50 plus £5 million in add-ons is enough to get Chelsea to sell Mount. He is a top target for United boss Erik ten Hag.

Chelsea initially set a £70 million price tag on the England international, but his desperation to leave has forced the club to reduce their valuation.

Mount has only 12 months left on his contract and will not sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

He is reportedly ready to run down his contract and leave for free. Chelsea are considering United’s final offer and will likely let him go.

Mount had been a part of Chelsea’s first team since 2019 after returning from successful loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County.

The Portsmouth-born midfielder immediately became a regular under Frank Lampard in the 2019/20 season. He won back-to-back Chelsea Player of the Year awards in subsequent seasons.

He showed versatility, playing in attack rather than midfield. He finished as the Chelsea player with the most goal contributions in the 2021/22 season.

He also became an England international under Gareth Southgate. 

However, the 2022/23 season was not great for him and the Chelsea team. He struggled to impact games as Chelsea struggled to find cohesion.

They went through four managers and failed to settle throughout the campaign. It affected Mount, who was also dealing with contract issues.

Mount has decided to leave the club he joined as a six-year-old in 2005. It looks like he will get a move to United.
