La Liga announce fixtures for the 2023/24 season

The fixture list for the 2023/24 La Liga season has been released ahead of the start of the new campaign on August 13.

Having won the title by a whopping ten points last time out, reigning champions Barcelona get underway with a clash against Getafe on the opening weekend.

Last season’s runners-up Real Madrid will begin their quest for a third league title in five years against Athletic Bilbao who they faced in the final game last season.

Madrid and Barcelona both have a decent run of matches in the early stages of the season.

They will be keen to steal an early march on each other before the first El Clasico of the season on October 29, with the reverse fixture scheduled for April 21.

Madrid visit the Wanda Metropolitano on September 24 to face Atletico, while the second leg will take place on February 4.

Tough away encounters against Sevilla and Real Sociedad await Barcelona and Atletico in their respective season finales on May 26, while Madrid will welcome Real Betis to the Santiago Bernabeu.

With two months and three weeks still left before the new season gets underway, the major contenders will be looking to bolster their squads.

Madrid have already acquired the services of Fran Garcia and Jude Bellingham while also tying Toni Kroos and Nacho down for an additional 12 months.

Off the back of their failed move to bring Lionel Messi back to Camp Nou, Barcelona have recently completed their first signing of the summer window by snapping up Ilkay Gundogan as a free agent from Manchester City.

Barca are also reportedly closing in on a deal for Brazilian prodigy Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense.
